Getting blocked is the number-one frustration in proxy work. You buy a great proxy plan, fire up your task, and within minutes you're staring at CAPTCHAs or 403 errors. The good news: bans are almost always avoidable. Anti-bot systems look for patterns that real users don't produce — so the solution is to blend in. Here are twelve tactics that consistently keep our success rates high.

1. Use the right proxy type for the target
No amount of clever technique will save datacenter IPs against a site that blocks them on sight. For well-defended targets, use residential or mobile proxies. For soft targets, datacenter is fine. 2. Rotate your IPs intelligently
Spread requests across many IPs so no single address shows an unnatural request volume. But don't rotate mid-session when you're logged in or mid-checkout — that's itself a red flag. Rotate between sessions, stay sticky within them.
3. Throttle your request rate
Firing requests as fast as your connection allows is the clearest bot signal there is. Add delays, cap concurrency per domain, and aim for a human-plausible pace. Patience is the cheapest anti-ban tool you have.
4. Randomise timing
Real users don't click at perfectly even intervals. Introduce random jitter into your delays so your timing looks organic rather than machine-regular.
5. Send realistic, consistent headers
Use a believable User-Agent, accept-language and accept-encoding, and make sure they're internally consistent (a mobile User-Agent with a desktop screen size is suspicious). Rotate header sets alongside your IPs.
6. Manage your browser fingerprint
Advanced anti-bot systems read dozens of browser signals — canvas, fonts, WebGL, timezone — to build a fingerprint. For tough targets, use anti-detect browsers or stealth plugins so each profile presents a consistent, realistic fingerprint that matches its IP's location.
7. Match geo-location to the IP
If your IP says Germany but your browser timezone and language say Brazil, you'll be flagged. Keep location signals aligned: IP country, timezone, language and currency should all agree.
8. Handle cookies like a real user
Accept and persist cookies within a session. Sites expect returning visitors to carry session state; a client that never keeps cookies looks automated. Pair a sticky IP with a persistent cookie jar.
9. Solve or avoid CAPTCHAs gracefully
When you hit a CAPTCHA, treat it as a warning sign that you're pushing too hard. Back off, slow down, and switch to a fresher or higher-trust IP rather than hammering through. Reducing the behaviour that triggered it is better than brute-forcing past it.
10. Respect robots.txt and rate limits
Beyond being ethical, honouring a site's stated limits keeps your footprint low and your IPs off its radar. Aggressive scrapers get noticed and blocked; courteous ones often run indefinitely.
11. Retry with backoff, not brute force
When a request fails, wait progressively longer before retrying and switch to a new IP. Immediately re-hitting the same endpoint with the same IP just confirms you're a bot.
12. Choose a provider with a large, clean pool
All the technique in the world can't compensate for a small or abused IP pool. A provider with millions of fresh, ethically sourced IPs gives you room to rotate and a low baseline ban rate. This is exactly what separated the top performers in our provider testing.
